Justina Milagros Machado is an American actress. She portrays Penelope Alvarez in the Pop TV Series One Day at a Time.
Personal Life
Justina Machado was born and raised in Chicago as the eldest of five children in a family of Puerto Rican descent.
Career
The talented film, theatre, and television actress can be seen in USA Network’s newest series “Queen of the South,” premiering June 2016, and the highly anticipated Netflix revival of “One Day at a Time.”
Justina might be best remembered as Vanessa Diaz in HBO’s critically acclaimed, award-winning series, “Six Feet Under.” Additional television credits include a starring role in the NBC comedy “Welcome to the Family” and roles on the ABC series “Private Practice” and “Desperate Housewives.” She appeared in “The Accidental Husband” opposite Uma Thurman and her resume also includes features such as “The Purge: Anarchy,” “The Call” with Halle Berry and “In the Electric Mist” with Tommy Lee Jones.
Justina made her Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning Best Musical "In The Heights" at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, as well as the world premiere production of “A Free Man of Color" directed by George Wolfe at the Lincoln Center Theater. Machado also starred opposite Marc Feuerstein in Neil Labutte’s “Some Girls” at the Geffen Theater.
